Georgetown picks off four passes, shuts out Lafayette 17-0 in Patriot League opener

The shutout was Georgetown's first against an FCS team since beating Stony Brook 7-0 on Sept. 7, 2006.

Georgetown (4-2, 1-0) stopped Lafayette (3-3, 1-1) on fourth down three times and forced the Leopards to punt five times while holding them to just 236 yards of total offense and 69 yards rushing.

Lafayette's best chance to avoid the shutout came when Dean DeNobile found Elijah Steward with a 46-yard completion to earn a first down at the Georgetown 25 midway through the third quarter, but the Hoyas forced four straight incompletions to end the threat.

Patrick Ryan kicked a 26-yard first-quarter field goal to cap a 12-play, 51-yard drive and Hart punched in from the 1 with a minute left in the opening half for a 10-0 lead. And one play after Cooper Blomstrom picked off a DeNobile pass at the Lafayette 24, Enyeribe broke up the middle and raced to the end zone.

A year after Georgetown quarterback Danny Lauter set a single-game program record by throwing for 429 yards against Lafayette, he completed 12 of 25 pass attempts for 100 yards with an interception.

Bryce Cox carried 19 times for 74 of the Hoyas 191 rushing yards. Jimmy Kibble, who entered the game with a Patriot League-leading 417 yards receiving, caught three passes for 42 yards.

DeNobile completed just 10 of his 38 pass attempts for 167 yards and was picked off four times.
