Ty'Jarian Williams connected with Cameron Nelson for a 24-yard touchdown to get Mississippi Valley State (0-9, 0-5) within a point with 1:47 remaining. Williams hit Nelson on the two-point try, but the Delta Devils were called for holding. They fumbled on the next play and the Panthers ran out the clock.
Prairie View A&M scored first when Guillermo Garcia Rodriguez kicked a 46-yard field goal with 9:27 left in the second quarter and the Panthers carried the 3-0 advantage into halftime.
Marko Jovisic — who missed three tries from closer range — kicked a 51-yarder that tied the game at 3 with 9:30 remaining in the third quarter. MVSU's defense forced a three-and-out and Williams needed just one play — a 76-yard scoring strike to Nathan Rembert — to give the Delta Devils a 10-3 lead heading to the final period.
Williams completed 16 of 24 passes for 287 yards for MVSU. Rembert had seven catches for 163 yards.
McDowell carried 21 times for 130 yards for the Panthers.
