Special teams help Rhode Island pick up 26-9 win at New Hampshire

The Rams trailed 3-2 at halftime, almost getting the lead after Moses Meus blocked a New Hampshire punt the Wildcats recovered in the end zone.

After Ty Groff's short field goal put Rhode Island (6-1, 3-0 Coastal Athletic Association) on top, special teams came through again for a 12-3 lead. The offense finally contributed when Devin Farrell hit Marquis Buchanan on a long bomb of 57 yards.

New Hampshire (4-3, 2-1) turned the ball over on downs deep in its own territory and the Rams iced the game covering 25 yards in three plays, the last 3 by Tommy Smith.

Matt Vezza threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Logan Tomlinson in the last minute for New Hampshire.

Malik Grant ran for 127 yards for the Rams, who had 171 on the ground. Two New Hampshire quarterbacks combined for 215 yards passing but the Wildcats had just 20 yards rushing because of four sacks.

Both teams are in the bottom half of the FCS coaches poll.
