Botafogo advanced to its first Copa Libertadores final on Wednesday despite a 3-1 loss against Peñarol in Montevideo.
More than 200 supporters of Uruguayan club Penarol were detained Wednesday after clashing with law enforcement ahead of their team's Copa Libertadores semifinal match against Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro police said.
Peñarol had a 0-0 draw at home against Brazil´s Flamengo on Thursday to secure a spot in the Copa Libertadores semifinals for the first time in 13 years.
The first edition of the annual FIFA Intercontinental Cup for club teams from around the world will have five matches, with European Champions League winners Real Madrid to play in the final on Dec. 18 in Doha, the world soccer body said on Friday.
